Maimane highlights supposed failure of Sisonke Vaccination Programme

Published on

Mmusi Maimane has highlighted the supposed failure of the Sisonke Vaccination Programme, particularly in comparison to other developing countries that are recording millions of vaccinated citizens.

One South Africa Movement’s (OSA) Chief Activist, Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Monday, 26 April 2021, to highlight what he referred to as a disastrous vaccination rollout plan in South Africa. The government launched the Sisonke Vaccination Programme at the start of the year, which has faced many hiccups since then.

The first phase of the rollout plan was initially earmarked to see 1.5 million frontline healthcare workers vaccinated. However, the National Department of Health (NDoH) has yet to hit the 300 000 mark due to continued issues and disturbances. Now, the NDoH is aiming to have 500 000 healthcare workers vaccinated before the commencement of phase two of the rollout programme on Monday, 17 May 2021.

Maimane stated, “When it comes to awarding tenders, there is excellence. When it comes to looting and capture. Number [one]. When it comes to project management, when it comes to administration of institutions and enterprises, this government consistently shows a tenacity for mediocrity.”
