Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter to endorse the social media campaign calling for the SAPS to reveal the identity of the police official who is allegedly behind the killing of Mthokozisi Ntumba.
Chief Activist of One South Africa Movement (OSA), Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Thursday, 11 March 2021, to add his voice to the mounting calls for the South African Police Service (SAPS) to reveal the official who is allegedly behind the death of Mthokozisi Ntumba. Ntumba died on Wednesday, 10 March 2021, after walking out of a clinic and reportedly being shot by an SAPS official looking to disperse the Wits protesters.
Following the confirmation of his identity, a social media campaign to have the SAPS reveal the name of the police official allegedly behind his killing was launched. However, the likelihood of the identity being revealed seems slim. Minister of Police, Bheki Cele reportedly stated that the matter is being investigated and that the department is working on better training for their officials on how to manage protest action.
Maimane tweeted, “We must remember his name #MthokozisiNtumba. He was coming from the doctor and was killed by the police during the Wits protests. He just completed his Master’s Degree and was looking forward to a promising career. He was [a] father to a young toddler and had many dreams for his kid.”
