Maimane concerned by promise of “job opportunities”

Published on

Mmusi Maimane has reflected on the Economic Recovery Plan delivered by the president, claiming that the promise of job opportunities is merely a “political spin.”

One South Africa Movement’s Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Thursday, 15 October 2020, to reflect on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s delivery of the Economic Recovery Plan. Maimane, who has been one of the leading voices in calling for the government to deliver the plan, highlighted various concerns relating to it. Amongst other issues, Maimane focused on the promise to create job opportunities.

In the thread addressing the matter, Maimane stated, “Whenever they start saying ‘job opportunities’ instead of saying ‘jobs,’ you must know that it’s now [a] political spin. Media houses should push back on this narrative that the ANC uses time and time again. People want real jobs, not theoretical job chances.”

Maimane then proposed a job tracker, similar to the COVID-19 tracking app. Moreover, he is now pushing for a public debate over the plan and its practicality.
