Mmusi Maimane has challenged South Africans to use the upcoming local government elections to “suspend” the ruling party and ultimately remove them from power.
Chief Activist of One South Africa Movement (OSA), Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Thursday, 6 May 2021, to add his voice to the news of the suspension of Ace Magashule. On Wednesday, 5 May 2021, the African National Congress (ANC) announced its suspension of its Secretary-General (SG).
Some supporters of the ruling party, specifically the alleged Ramaphosa faction, have welcomed the news. Moreover, it appears to be an indication of the party’s intention to root out corruption from the inside. Political figures like Maimane have suggested that the actions are further proof of the continued infighting and power struggles within the party. Therefore, some believe that the ANC should be removed from power.
Reiterating his sentiments from his tenure as the leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Maimane suggested that the country should use the upcoming elections as an opportunity to remove the party from power.

We the people must suspend the ANC beginning with the upcoming #LocalElections2021.
The country can do better. The ANC has widespread levels of looting and incompetence. It’s beyond one faction, beyond a few people. pic.twitter.com/qL2ZYYHUyy
