Loyiso Jafta’s testimony before the Zondo Commission alleged that the accounting office at the SSA was at the centre of questionable dealings by the ruling party.
Acting Director-General of the Social Security Agency (SSA), Loyiso Jafta took the stand at the Zondo Commission on Tuesday, 26 January 2021. Jafta’s testimony follows former Chairperson of the High-Level Review Panel into the SSA, Sydney Mufamadi’s, which strongly implicated former president, Jacob Zuma.
While the belief was that Jafta’s testimony would follow in the same vein, he alleged that funds from the agency were used to fund election campaigns for the ruling party. Moreover, he claimed that the accounting office was used as the centre of questionable operations by the ruling party.
However, he claimed that when he took over, he worked to redress the issue. According to the posts shared on Twitter by the commission, “He says in this regard, the remedial measure that was implemented is that entities in the office of the Accounting Officer that conducted operations were reassigned to operational entities within the Agency.”
