[LISTEN] Workers not responsible for load shedding, Eskom is lying

On Monday, 18 June 2018 Political Analysis South Africa spoke to Livhuwani Mammbru, who is the Spokesperson for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

Parts of the country were left in the dark this past weekend as a result of Eskom implementing stage one and two load shedding. The power utility blamed the recent protest action by workers as the reason behind its decision to implement load shedding.

Mammburu has denied this claim, saying that Eskom is using the protest by workers to cover up its inability to provide enough electricity to consumers.

“Pickets happen from 1 to 2 [PM], and it is not a working hour, our members never sabotaged anything… We are reliably informed that this problem of load shedding has been long coming, even before our members could go on picket. So Eskom is using our members as scapegoats,” he said.
