[LISTEN] Workers down tools at Walter Sisulu University; no lectures

Published on

On Wednesday, 30 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Yonela Tukwayo, who is the Spokesperson for Walter Sisulu University.

Workers at the university downed tools yesterday, following a wage negotiation deadlock. Tukwayo says that some lecturers and support staff are participating in the strike. She adds that it is difficult to quantify the number of workers participating in the strike at this stage, as some workers have chosen to report to work, while others are still deciding on whether to participate in the strike action.

“It’s difficult to say how many because it only started yesterday and various line managers have been receiving the declarations, but they haven’t been consolidated yet,” she said.
