On Tuesday, 19 June 2018 Political Analysis South Africa spoke to Hlansinyane Motaung, who is the Spokesperson for the Motor Transport Workers Union (MTWU).
Truck drivers affiliated with MTWU embarked on a protected strike this morning, 19 June 2018.
Drivers are demanding, among other things, that they be paid their provident fund money that has been due to them for the past two years.
Spokesperson, Hlansinyane Motaung, says some drivers have left their respective companies, while others have since died before employers honoured their agreements. He added that drivers are willing to suspend their strike should employers meet their demands.
“Employees are saying they want to go back to the old employer whereby all their things were fine they never had a problem, so they want that commitment. Immediately if they can have that commitment we can suspend the strike,” Motaung said.
