On Tuesday, 29 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Andre Adams, who is the Saftu Western Cape Provincial Secretary.
South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) members will be demonstrating outside parliament today, 29 May 2018, during a planned debate on various labour law amendments and the new national minimum wage. The trade union federation has previously come out against government’s legislative agenda on labour, saying the envisaged laws and regulations would restrict the right to strike. Adams says Saftu plans to intensify its opposition to the proposed labour laws.
“We are going to intensify our position, so we will start with the demonstration today and if they still continue to proceed we will be having a working-class summit which we will hope to put the proposal of a three-day shutdown,” he said.
