On Wednesday, 16 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to FEDUSA’s Acting President, Riefdah Ajam.
The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has rejected the reduction of Cape Town water tariffs from 26.96% to 19.9%. Ajam says the city’s officials have not created a space for trade union federations and other stakeholders to engage in formal talks with it in order to raise their concerns.
“Formal discussions with the city have not necessarily commenced because they have not given the space for that platform, hence the reason why FEDUSA has gone over and above that process to engage on a national level to ensure that added pressure can be applied to this process…” she said.
