[LISTEN] Experience as a requirement for jobs should be scrapped

On Thursday, 17 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Lerato Gambu who is the Spokesperson for the National Youth Development Agency.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has expressed concern over the high number of youth unemployment in the country. Gambu says the NYDA has come up with a number of proposals, including scrapping work experience requirements, to ensure that the 3.3 million unemployed youth are absorbed into the labour market.

“We need to scrap experience as an entry requirement in particular in government agencies. We realised that a lot of young people…a number of them have graduated, but they stand outside because the requirements of entering the job market come with experience,” he said.
