On Wednesday, 23 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Khulu Phasiwe, who is the Spokesperson for Eskom.
Today, 23 May 2018, is the second round of wage negotiations between Eskom and worker representatives. Eskom has placed an initial offer of a 0% increase, citing financial difficulties.
At the same time, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has rejected the offer and has announced that it will embark on a protest march next month in KwaZulu-Natal.
Phasiwe, however, says Eskom is still wiling to negotiate with the workers.
“Negotiations…are a give and take. You put something on the table the other party also puts their part on the table and then you negotiate,” he said.
