[LISTEN] Eastern Cape citrus workers end strike action

On Thursday, 7 June 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Zolile Langa, who is the Eastern Cape Provincial Organiser for FAWU.

The Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) says citrus workers around Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape have ended a strike over wages. Thousands of workers embarked on a strike last month demanding that employers grant them a R20 per hour minimum wage. Employers have since agreed to the workers’ demands. Langa says the agreement between workers and employers will be signed today, 7 June 2018.

“They’ve agreed with the company and the MEC that the company will draft an agreement today agreeing on all the demands that they’ve put on the table,” he said.
