On Wednesday, 30 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Simphiwe Gada, who is the Chairperson of Denosa.
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) has condemned the Gauteng Department of Health’s response to an incident at the Alexandra Community Health Centre, where a group of armed men entered the facility and stabbed a patient in front of nurses and other patients. The Gauteng Department of Health responded, saying that more security will be provided at the facility and that staff will be provided with counselling.
Gada, however, says that more should be done to protect staff at the Community Health Centre and that the facility should begin the process of insourcing security guards.
“We have said that let’s insource security instead of outsourcing security and employ people directly as the department and train those people and ensure that those people have tools of trade to function,” he said.
