[LISTEN] DA says implementation of new labour laws would be impossible

On Wednesday, 30 May 2018 Political Analysis South Africa’s Thando Maeko spoke to Michael Bagraim, who is the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister of Labour.

Members of the DA walked out of the National Assembly yesterday just before the voting on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Bill commenced. The party has expressed its disapproval of the NMW Bill and other labour laws passed yesterday in the National Assembly. Bagraim says the implementation of the laws would be impossible. He explains that the new labour legislation could result in more people being unemployed in South Africa.

“We don’t implement the laws that we already have, so we are making more stringent and more difficult legislation when we can’t even implement,” he said.
