Limpopo’s Transport Department commits to addressing R555 potholes

The Limpopo Transport Department has assured the public that it is currently looking into resolving the potholes issue on the R555, after Mbalula alerted the department.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety took to Twitter on Tuesday, 2 March 2021, to confirm that it has been alerted of the life-threatening potholes on the R555. The matter became topical in light of the abrasive response by Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula.

This was after a complainant aired their grievances on Twitter and called on the minister to address the matter. However, Mbalula’s response to the post was that the user should address the matter with the regional transport department.

Initially, Mbalula was adamant that his response was not out of line. However, he received much backlash because he is the Minister of Transport, therefore, all matters related to transport and roads should be of concern to him. Moreover, some claimed that his response could have been less abrasive.

Mbalula’s latest comment on the matter was on Wednesday, 3 March 2021, where he referred to the incident as “public discourse.”
