Let’s move on, SASSA’s R350 should be R370

Recently saw the July 2024 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) payment confirmation by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), and was struck by how many people still refer to this grant as the R350 grant (including SASSA themselves), despite it having changed to R370 since April this year.

I guess we are all creatures of habit and nothing beats the first name used for something – for many years, like many others, I called toothpaste Colgate, even when I started using other brands.

Been wanting and planning to do an interview with a SASSA SRD recipient for some time now – feel free to reach out if you are such a recipient.

A lot has been said about this grant, from some saying it encourages laziness, is not enough, should be permanent, etc. Would really love to hear from those receiving and using it.
