Lesufi calls for Cornwall Hill College to stop with its supposed hair obsession
Panyaza Lesufi has affirmed that he will spearhead the actions to curb the alleged racist actions at Cornwall Hill College, as it is speculated that the school’s hair policy is racially charged.
Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi took to Twitter on Monday, 31 May 2021, to reiterate his sentiments on the contentious Cornwall Hill College saga. The school made headlines as learners of colour took a stand against what they labelled as the racist policies of the school.
The school’s policy in regards to hair was one of the particular matters that disgruntled the learners and parents the most. The learners of colour and supportive parents have suggested that the policy is racially charged and favours caucasian learners.
In the video shared by the Gauteng Education department, Lesufi can be heard asking the school to stop its supposed obsession with hair; particularly black and brown hair. Moreover, he asserted, “So, the leadership of the school, parents and to all of you my children, I can tell you now – I’m declaring it – racism ends here and no further. I commit on behalf of this school that no one will be mistreated from now on.”
