Leon Schreiber took to Twitter to lambaste Bheki Cele for his recent comments on farm attacks in an interview, claiming that the government does not care about farmers.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration, Leon Schreiber took to Twitter on Friday, 9 October 2020, to lambaste the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele. The minister was interviewed by Adriaan Basson on his and the department’s stance on farm attacks and killings earlier in the day. This is a matter that has been topical of late because of the inflammatory “quotes” from Cele, which have reportedly fuelled the increasing tension between community members.
During the interview, the minister attempted to highlight that race might not be the reason for the crimes being committed. What he continued to attempt to convey throughout the interview was that it should not be a case of one race against the other.
However, the headline that Schreiber reacted to stripped the minister’s sentiments of the all the nuances, suggesting that he blamed the farm owners for the killings. This led to Schreiber lambasting Cele by, again, touching on the need for farm killings to be recognised as a priority crime.
