EFF leader, Julius Malema has added his voice to those of South Africans who’ve called on US President Donald Trump to steer away from the SA land debate, following a controversial tweet
The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) leader, Julius Malema had strong words for US President Donald Trump, after he declared on Twitter that he had asked his state secretary to look into land expropriation and farm killings in South Africa.
“I have asked Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers.”, Trump said.
During a press briefing held in Johannesburg on Thursday, 23 August 2018, Malema said they suspect the Democratic Alliance and President Cyril Ramaphosa being involved in the US’ apparent intervention in the matter.
“We’ll not engage government about Trump, this is a government of cowards. Our suspicion is that the DA [Democratic Alliance] is involved in this thing. Our suspicion is that Cyril’s group is involved in this thing. They do not believe in the expropriation of land without compensation, including Cyril himself”, Malema said.
“We must put it on record‚ unequivocally‚ Donald ‘the pathological liar’ Trump. We are not scared of you and your USA or Western imperialist forces‚”
Malema added that: “South Africa is a post-colonial country with deep racial inequalities that were long designed by apartheid and colonisation. Our land expropriation programme seeks to realise the ideal of equality and human dignity.”
Meanwhile, lobby group, Afriforum and the Freedom Front Plus party have both welcomed Trump’s tweet. It comes as the lobby group criss-crossed Europe, Australia and the US in an attempt to receive support from the international community.
