Last batch of Global Citizen Festival tickets given away

Global citizens took part in over 4 million actions since the ticket winning competition was opened in July of this year.

Organisers of the Global Citizen Festival have on Tuesday, 27 November 2018, thanked participants for taking action against social injustice in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

In a tweet, the organisers announced the official closure of the ticket winning competition as the last batch of tickets were given away on Tuesday, 27 November 2018.

“Thanks for all of your actions Global Citizens. We’ve just selected our final set of #GlobalCitizenFestivalSA: Mandela 100 ticket winners,” said the post from the festival’s official twitter page.

Global Citizens were also thanked for their efforts in performing over 4 million actions against extreme poverty and other social issues since the competition officially started in July.

“#GlobalCitizenFestivalSA: Mandela 100 will last one day, but the actions South Africans took to get there are creating change that will last much longer,” the organisers tweeted.

The official line-up for the festival includes the likes of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and her husband Jay-Z, as well as local favourites Black Coffee, Sho Madjozi and Cassper Nyovest.

The organisation announced on Tuesday, 27 November 2018 that Black Panther actress Danai Gurira would be one of the many famous hosts to make an appearance at the festival.

The competition was open to citizens from South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho. The festival will be broadcast live on DSTV and SABC on Sunday, 2 December 2018.
