Land grab case against Malema postponed

The Mangaung Regional Court has postponed the case against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema to 27 June 2018.

The EFF leader is being charged for contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act when he told EFF supporters at a rally in 2016 to invade land.

Malema appeared in regional court on 6 April 2018 where he applied for a postponement of the case because he is currently challenging the validity of the Riotous Assemblies Act. The case is to be heard at the North Gauteng High Court.

Speaking to a crowd gathered outside the court after his appearance, Malema urged his supporters to take land because it was stolen.

“Occupy the land because they have failed to give you the land,” he added.

Malema also defended his statements instructing party supporters to invade land.

“We are not here not because we raped, we are not here because we killed anyone. We are here not because we stole anything. We are here for having recited the Freedom Charter that people must occupy the land wherever they choose to do so,” he said

Malema is also set to address a land occupation rally in George on 6 April 2018.
