Labour Department emphasises need for social distancing in the workplace

Published on

The Labour Department has emphasised that workplaces should adhere to the regulated social-distancing protocols, following the recent national address by the president.

The Department of Employment and Labour took to Twitter on Monday, 11 January 2021, to emphasise that workplaces should adhere to the 1.5-meter social distancing regulation. The post also functions to clarify that the social distancing regulations are not only applicable between clients and employees, but between employees too.

As such, the Labour Department has released a post stressing the importance of workplaces having a Department of Health-approved COVID-19 safety plan in place. Legal ramifications are also on the cards, as face masks are now mandatory in the workspace.

Moreover, businesses risk getting fines for non-compliance, especially if an employee claims from the Compensation Fund for having contracted the virus in the workplace.
