Labour Department confirms MIBCO collective agreement is in review

The Labour Department has released a statement confirming that the MIBCO collective agreement is currently in review, following delays due to council politics and the pandemic.

The Department of Employment and Labour took to Twitter on Tuesday, 16 February 2021, to issue a statement to confirm receipt of the request by the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) to have the Main Collective Agreement reviewed. This is a necessary step before it can be distributed to independent parties.

The agreement that is currently in place reached its expiration date in March 2020. However, due to the pandemic, attempting to amend the agreement was interrupted. Moreover, other factors such as factions and insider fighting resulted in the process being further delayed. However, the statement has asserted that the amended agreement has been received.

The statement concluded by stating, “The corrected and signed collective agreement was finally submitted on Tuesday, 9 February 2021, of which it is still in progress and it has not reached the minister’s desks for his decision to extend it to non-parties before it can be published in the Government Gazette.”
