The Labour Department has announced the temporary closure of the Mamelodi Labour Centre, due to the need to upgrade the centre’s electricity infrastructure.
The Department of Employment and Labour took to Twitter on Tuesday, 18 May 2021, to confirm that it is set to temporarily close the Mamelodi Labour Centre. The closure, however, is not due to service delivery protests, as is the case in Mangaung in the Free State.
The service delivery protests in the Free State have resulted in the indefinite closure of various labour centres, as the roads to them have been blocked. Despite the protest action having commenced at the start of the week, the matter has only just started garnering much attention from the media.
With regards to the Mamelodi Labour Centre, the closure is due to the need to upgrade the building’s electricity infrastructure as part of its maintenance processes, according to the post. The centre is set to reopen on Thursday, 20 May 2021. On the day, the labour centre will reopen as normal at 07:30.
