Labour Department announces indefinite closure of Brakpan Labour Centre

Published on

The Labour Department has announced the indefinite closure of the Brakpan Labour Centre, claiming that the current building has been leased out to a new tenant.

The Department of Employment and Labour took to Twitter on Friday, 20 November 2020, to announce the indefinite closure of the Brakpan Labour Centre. The reason for the closure was cited as the landlord of the building having leased it to another tenant, ultimately leaving clients and employees destitute.

Speaking on the immediate plans by the department, the statement read, “The provincial management has put together a contingency plan to ensure that service delivery is not affected and continues and, to this extent, all neighbouring offices have been adequately resourced to handle the influx of clients due to the closure of the Brakpan office. These include deploying staff members from the Brakpan office to neighbouring offices from Thursday, 26 November 2020, to assist with the influx of clients.”

The statement also listed four neighbouring labour centres that Brakpan community members can go to, namely, Boksburg, Benoni, Nigel and Springs.
