Kanye West is a Trump supporter – here’s why

Kanye West called President Donald Trump his ‘brother’ on Twitter.

On 25 April 2018, Kanye West landed himself in hot water over a Twitter post.

This was Kanye’s post:

“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”

Amidst backlash over the tweet, and a response from his wife Kim Kardashian-West who is a Trump critic, Kanye posted again:

“My wife just called me, and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don’t agree with everything Trump does. I don’t agree 100% with anyone but myself.”

Kim defended her husband by saying that he is an independent thinker who is ‘years ahead of his time’.

President Trump replied to Kanye’s tweet saying,

“Thank you Kanye, very cool!”

MAGA

Three hours after Kanye West called Trump his ‘brother’ he posted a series of photographs of himself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

Kanye captioned the picture, “We got love”.

Trump again responded by tweeting, “MAGA!” (Make American Great Again).

Kanye also criticised former President Barack Obama saying,

““Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed.”

Kanye’s history with Trump

This was not he first time Kanye has declared his admiration for the US president.

In 2016, Kanye West first shocked his fans by voicing his unique opinions on Trump on two occasions.

In November 2016, shortly before he was hospitalised for exhaustion, Kanye announced to a concert crowd in San Jose that he had not voted in the election. He made it clear however that if he had voted, it would have been for Trump.

Then in December, Kanye went to meet Trump in New York at Trump Tower during the then-President-elect’s transition period. Kanye explained to his shocked fans that he had gone to see Trump to “discuss multicultural issues”. Kanye said,

“I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change”.

That day President Trump stated that he and Kanye West ‘have been friends for a long time’.
