Kaizer Chiefs coach explains bow down for Khama Billiat, likening him to Lionel Messi

According to Kaizer Chiefs’ coach, Giovanni Solinas, Khama Billiat is to Kaizer Chiefs, what world superstar Lionel Messi is to FC Barcelona.

Out of Amakhosi’s 13 goals scored so far this season, Billiat has brilliantly scored five and assisted four goals.

Solinas, who has twice ditched the customary handshake after substituting a player, when he literary bowed down to Billiat on live television, upon substituting the Zimbabwean striker against both Free State Stars last week and AmaZulu last weekend.

Asked for the reasons for his actions, the Italian underlined the player’s quality by likening Billiat to one of the greatest ever players of the game, Messi.

“Barcelona have ten players and Messi. Kaizer Chiefs have ten players and Billiat. Khama is the best player in the PSL and he’s one of those rare players who makes the difference.”

Meanwhile, with Chiefs now entering a recess of close to a week until its next game, the Italian coach is relishing the break.

“I am happy about the break because that means that we can work hard to become even better.”

“I am happy defensively, we defend as a team… The players show commitment in training and are eager to learn and improve. We just have to continue doing this. I am an optimist – our spectators haven’t seen the best of Kaizer Chiefs as yet,” Solinas said.

Chiefs will lock horns with Highlands Park in Tembisa on Tuesday, 2 October 2018.
