On Monday, 27 February, Big Bang (빅뱅 in Hangeul) member and K-pop superstar G-Dragon began his 21-month mandatory military service.
According to Korea Times, 29 Years old G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong, or 권지용) is serving in the 3rd Infantry “Skeleton” Division stationed in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province, near the inter-Korean border. The military service begins with a five week basic training.
“G-Dragon wants to begin his military service quietly,” an YG Entertainment representative said, adding that there will be no farewell event for fans.
Next in line after G-Dragon comes Taeyang. He is due to begin his military service on Mar. 12. T.O.P was the first member of Big Bang to begin his military service. He is currently fulfilling his duties as a public service worker after being discharged due to his drug issues.
As of March, the band is left with only two members, Daesung and Seungri.
