Published on

John Steenhuisen has addressed President Cyril Ramaphosa, calling for the immediate end of all lockdown restrictions, with the exception of the mass gatherings in confined spaces.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) John Steenhuisen directly addressed the president in a tweet on Tuesday, 15 September 2020. Steenhuisen called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to put an immediate end to all the lockdown restrictions, with the exception of mass gatherings in confined spaces. Many have expressed their support for the move by highlighting the economic setbacks resulting from the restrictions.

In a statement by the DA, the party claims, “Respected scientists, such as vaccinology Professor Shabir Mahdi and Dr Glenda Gray, both members of government’s ministerial advisory committee, have advised that lockdown is not serving any useful purpose.”

In concluding the statement, the DA suggested the urgent opening of the energy market to boost job creation and enable a reliable and affordable power supply, amongst other factors.
