Gambian mob sets police officer’s home alight over death of detainee

A pupil from Mondeor High School has been stabbed to death outside the school yard on Wednesday, 13 March 2019.

A 16-year-old pupil has been stabbed and was declared dead on the scene. This incident happened outside Mondeor High school, Johannesburg, on Wednesday morning, 13 March 2019.

Emergency Rescue 24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says when paramedics arrived on the scene at around 08:14, they discovered that the patient had sustained a stab wound to the chest. “Assessments showed that the patient had sustained a stab wound to his chest and showed no signs of life,” he said.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered on the patient and he was given immediate treatment in an effort to revive him. “Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned, and he was declared dead by another service,” said Meiring

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” he said.

The Gauteng Department of Education issued its reaction to the crushing news. MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi is already on his way to the scene of the tragedy, after expressing his sincere condolences to the boy’s family. The department will release more information as and when it becomes available.

“Breaking News: We just received news that a learner was stabbed and died on the scene, around Mondeor High School. MEC @Lesufi is currently on his way there. More details will be shared in due course,” read a tweet from the Gauteng Department of Education’s Twitter account.
