The Jacob Zuma Foundation has issued a statement denouncing the judgement against its patron, calling it judicially emotional and angry, as well as inconsistent with the country’s Constitution.
On Wednesday, 30 June 2021, The Jacob G. Zuma Foundation issued a media statement in response to the former president’s ConCourt judgement. The foundation has taken note of the judgement and confirmed that it is busy studying and discussing it with its lawyers to get advice on the options available to its patron.
The foundation made a few observations regarding the matter. According to the foundation, it is cognizant of the task set out for the Zondo Commission to perform for the country, but it believes that it remains a statutory body clothed only with the powers that the legislature has given it. The foundation also expressed that Zuma has never considered himself as someone above the law or the constitution. The foundation further stated that contrary to what is being said about him in that regard, he insists on being treated like every other citizen.
The foundation further noted that Zuma has had his doubts on the lawfulness of the commission, as it has supposedly been used as a platform for all kinds of attacks on him. The foundation concluded by denouncing the judgement, calling it “judicially emotional and inconsistent with the Constitution.”
