Isidingo has portrayed the harsh reality of many South African women with a recent storyline centred around issues of domestic abuse.
Actress Rosa Anthony joined the Isidingo cast as Seline van Staden in May 2018. Her character was introduced as one half of the van Staden couple, new residents who arrive in Horizon Deep following a whirlwind romance and elopement.
However, it was made clear early on that this young couple would not turn out to be exactly what they seemed.
In recent episodes, the true nature of Seline and Clive van Staden’s relationship has come to light, ending in a dramatic conclusion on Thursday, 11 October. After getting into an argument, Clive is thought to have murdered his wife.
Here are a few reaction tweets from Isidingo viewers:
“Seline should’ve stopped provoking Clive. There’s no telling what’s the worst he can do.”
“And he’s just added murderer on that list!”
“So, he killed her just like that! What a psycho this guy turned out to be.”
The Isidingo Twitter account later posted a response to the episode outcome, writing, “Seline’s story is the reality of many South African women who find themselves victims of domestic violence. If you are in trouble, ask for help and save yourself.”
Isidingo airs weekdays at 19:00 on SABC 3.
