Is Unlimited Sneakers a legitimate business: Examining the red flags

Unlimited Sneakers offers convenient access to a wide range of sneakers, but shopping with this online retailer may not be as good as it seems.

Hunting down the perfect pair of sneakers is no simple task. And it often involves saving money, visiting many different stores, waiting in long queues, battling stock issues, and much more.

So, when you find an online retailer that stocks a range of stylish, rare, and otherwise-appealing sneakers at only a fraction of the price that they would be in-store, the opportunity can seem simply too good to pass by.

However, jumping the gun on your online sneaker purchases can end up costing you more than you would have paid for the real deal.

Is Unlimited Sneakers legitimate?

While there is certainly a variety of sneaker sellers online – ranging from one-man restorers and resellers, to multi-billion international companies – the real trick is distinguishing between the legitimate retailers and the scammers.

If you have been trying to find the newest and coolest sneakers in South Africa, chances are, you have come across a company named Unlimited Sneakers.

Unlimited Sneakers is an online retailer which sells a wide range of rare sneakers at “unmatched prices.”

However, while the sneakers for sale at Unlimited Sneakers may seem appealing at first glance – there are a few red flags that you should be aware of before you hand over your hard-earned money.

Best practices for shopping online

Shopping for your sneakers (and various other items) online can be more convenient and offer a wider array than shopping in-store. But this way of shopping also comes with an increased risk.

Online shopping scams come in a vast variety of formats and can range from misleading advertisements to entirely fake e-commerce storefronts.

If you want to avoid getting caught in an online shopping scam, some of the things that you should – and should not do – can be summarized as follows:

Things that you SHOULD do while shopping online Things that you SHOULD NOT do while shopping online
  • You should always check the safety and security of any website you visit
  • You should use secure payment methods when you shop online
  • You should always check the reviews before buying from a business
  • You should trust your instincts. If an offer seems too good to be true – it probably is
  • You should not trust websites that do not have up-to-date security and safety certificates
  • You should not share your personal or banking information with an untrusted source
  • You should not make a purchase before comparing companies, policies and prices
  • You should not click on suspicious links or ads
  • You should not trust a website that is not transparent
  • You should not trust a website that has obvious design flaws, spelling errors, low-quality photos or any other issues

The business is still new

Unlimited Sneakers is a registered private company in South Africa, with the registration number K2023/839856/07, but the business is not very old.

As its  registration number suggests, Unlimited Sneakers was only registered as a business in 2023. The business’s domain name ( is also fairly new and was only registered a few years ago in 2021.

This domain registration is also set to expire in a few months’ time on 23 September 2024.

Being a new website is, in and of itself, not a huge issue. But when it comes to the safety and security of your online purchases, it is always safest to give the business some time  to build up a reputation before you order from it.

It is also often good to know that the website that you ordered from will be around long enough for you to receive your order.

The Unlimited Sneakers reviews are mixed

Another thing that you should be weary of when placing an order with Unlimited Sneakers is that there seems to be quite a bit of disagreement about how good this online retailer’s service is.

Overall, Unlimited Sneakers has a Trustindex rating of 2.8 out of 5 on hellopeter. But with 11 reviews giving the business five stars and 34 reviews giving it just one star, it seems like the service that you will receive while shopping online from Unlimited Sneakers can vary quite drastically.

Other red flags

The negative reviews posted for Unlimited Sneakers complain about sneakers never being delivered, a lack of communication and difficult exchanges. These sentiments are all repeated in the comment section of the business’s Instagram page.

However, perhaps the biggest red flag indicating that Unlimited Sneakers is not planning to deliver what it has promised customers countrywide – is the fact that the website has now gone offline (its most recent Instagram post dates back to January 2024).
