Is Koer really free?
These days, dating apps come in all forms and shapes. And, while you may have found yourself considering even the weird and wonderful options like Sizzl (an app that connects bacon lovers), Tindog (an app that focuses on connecting four-legged partners) or Trek Dating (a dating site made up of Star Trek enthusiasts) – there is one more local option that you may want to try out first.
The Afrikaans dating app “Koer” has been making waves all over the language divide and offers Afrikaans people all over the world the chance to reciprocate (“koer”) or duck (“koes”) the romantic advances of thousands of other lonely singles from the comfort of their digital screens.
However, while this app is indeed free to download, there is some fine print that you should be aware of before you start swiping.

The catch
You may have seen Koer marketed as a “free” dating app. But, though it is technically true that you can download the app (which is available on the Apple App Store for iOS devices, and Google Play or the Huawei AppGallery for Android devices) entirely for free – and you can even get your profile set up and start swiping for free – you will have to pay for a license if you want to enjoy all of the features that this app has to offer.
How it all works
Once you download Koer and start swiping, you will eventually be informed that you can purchase an additional license, which comes with an additional fee of R69 per month.
Not signing up for this premium license will limit you to only 20 actions per day on the app, whereas, signing up for this license will allow you to:
- “Koer” or “Koes” to your heart’s content with unlimited actions
- Open an unlimited number of messages in your inbox
- Have more control over the advertisements that come across your screen
- See other members who have also paid for these premium features
Can you cancel the Koer license?
Trying out a new app for the first time can be daunting, and this is even more true when you have to put your money where your mouth is to get access to exclusive in-app features.
