The IFP has confirmed that it has submitted its candidate list for the upcoming government elections to the IEC, assuring its commitment to the democratic project.
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), on Monday, 23 August 2021, confirmed that it has submitted its candidate list to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), in-keeping with the commission’s current timetable for the upcoming local government elections (LGE). The party noted that although it has called for the postponement of the elections, it is making the necessary preparations to keep up to existing IEC deadlines, including the submission of its candidate list.
The IFP further assured that its candidates are ready to stand up, speak up, and serve the people of their constituencies. It also stated that it is committed to the democratic project and to ensuring the people of South Africa will be served by leaders with proven track records in the government.
Moreover, it has also committed to providing effective, functional governance, as well as efficient service delivery. It further affirmed its respect for the rule of law. In addition, the party promised to abide by whatever the Constitutional Court will rule on, however, it stated that it is confident in its case and well-substantiated arguments for the postponement of the 2021 local government elections. The party now awaits the electioneering guidelines which are yet to be finalised.
