Idols SA fans were left disappointed by Nosipho Silinda’s ‘Show Stopper’ week performance on Sunday, 7 October 2018.
Idols South Africa’s ‘Show Stopper’ week is a highly-anticipated point in the talent competition, as contestants are given the opportunity to show off their dance and performance skills, backed by full-scale production work.
Viewers often see this week as a turning point in the competition, as the true stars are signalled out from the rest. This proved true during season 14’s ‘Show Stopper’ Top 7 spectacular, which was broadcast on Sunday, 7 October, as the stand-out performers were separated from the more mediocre of the bunch.
Audiences were wowed by performances form contestants Thato, King B and Yanga, but fans of contestant Nosipho Silinda were sadly left disappointed.
Many pointed out that while her vocal performance of Ariana Grande’s hit-single ‘Into You’ was decent, she put little effort into her stage presence and dance routine. Some went so far as to suggest that she no longer wants to be part of the competition and should be booted off.
Silinda has since responded to the backlash by speaking to Isolezwe about her performance.
“I’m a shy person, ever since I was little, I was just born like that, but I can see that my supporters want to see some change in me, that’s why I will try my utmost best to make them proud. I entered this competition thinking that I would just get on stage and sing as it seemed easy, but I won’t lie, it is difficult,” she told the publication.
Idols SA airs Sundays at 17:00 on Mzansi Magic channel 161.
