How much is SASSA child grant for 2021?

Published on

SASSA child grant increases for 2021 have not been detailed by the agency yet, therefore, child grant recipients are expected to continue receiving R740 until otherwise advised.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers a child grant to caregivers or guardians of qualifying children. In 2020, the child grant payout was detailed as R440 per child.

However, due to the pandemic and the declaration of a National State of Disaster in the country, the government announced the introduction of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. The COVID-19 SRD payouts meant that grant recipients would receive an increased grant payout to make provision for the financial constraints caused by the lockdown regulations and restrictions.

During the months of the COVID-19 SRD payouts, the R440 was increased to R740. The COVID-19 SRD payouts ended in January 2021,however, the agency has not yet confirmed whether the grant payout will return to R440 or remain as is.
