Herman Mashaba describes Township Economy Bill as “PR exercise”

Published on

Herman Mashaba has expressed opposition to the sentiments of those claiming that the Township Economy Bill, which he evidently sees merit in, currently discriminates against foreign nationals.

Leader of Action SA, Herman Mashaba took to Twitter on Monday, 19 October 2020, to lambaste political parties, such as the Democratic Alliance (DA), which claim that the Township Economy Bill currently “discriminates against foreign nationals.” This was in response to a local media report on the matter and the leading opposition party’s stance.

Mashaba, who has continually supported capitalist strides to recover the economy, seems to support the bill, which would work to formalise and ease the restrictions that make it difficult for businesses in the townships to grow. Mashaba suggested that there is no need for the bill because the matter could be resolved if the ruling party uses the current constitutional framework to deal with illegal foreign nationals.

His suggestion of it being a “PR exercise” aims to highlight that the ruling party might be using the bill as an election strategy to pacify #PutSouthAfricansFirst supporters.
