GOOD is pleased with Ngcukaitobi’s views on Expropriation Bill

Published on

The GOOD party has expressed its reassurance at the fact that land affairs expert, Advocate Ngcukaitobi is also in support of the Expropriation Bill and against amending Section 25.

National Policy Officer for the GOOD party, Mark Rountree issued a statement on Monday, 30 August 2021, in which he noted that land affairs expert, Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, together with GOOD, both agree with and are in support of the Expropriation Bill. However, they are against amending Section 25 of the Constitution.

Rountree stated that Ngcukaitobi was reported to have said that the process to consider amending Section 25 of the Constitution is “a monumental waste of time. If the ANC wants serious progress on land, what it should do is pass the Expropriation Bill.” GOOD also stressed that this is exactly its position, as it has always said there is no need to amend Section 25, as the Constitutional Court itself had already confirmed that expropriation without compensation was possible in 2002.

GOOD further came out to say that it supports repealing the apartheid-era Expropriation Act and replacing it with the bill, but is however, not in support of the amending of Section 25. It stated that land reform is a critical issue to ensure redress for past injustices and that passing the bill, aligned with and enabling our democratic Constitution, could speed up reform.
