Gigi Lamayne chose an all-female headlining line-up while uplifting new and up-and-coming artists with her first ever Gigi Gang Show concert on Saturday, 4 May 2019.
Gigi Lamayne first announced the idea of the concert through a video posted on her Twitter page on Thursday, 24 January 2019. The formal announcement of the concert was officially made by the rapper in March 2019 when she released the headlining acts for the concert. Gigi Lamayne made a conscious decision to make the headlining acts an all-female line-up, which will feature herself, artists like Mpumi, Nadia Nakai, Fifi Cooper, Moozlie and Rouge.
Although the headlining acts are all female, Gigi features male artists like Reason, Kwesta, Khuli Chana, Bigstar Johnson, Manu Worldstar and a host of many other male artists and DJs like DJ ZanD, Clock and Citi Lytes to be supporting acts during the show. Besides being conscious of the gender inequalities in the music industry, Gigi was also conscious about creating a space for new talent with her concert.
In collaboration with SilkouronLife, she hosted a competition on her Twitter page, asking unsigned and undiscovered talents to post videos of themselves performing their singles and the most liked and retweeted artists would get featured on the show.
The concert, which will be hosted at the Eklah Stadium Cricket Oval in Soweto, aims to be an all-inclusive show, with families encouraged to come with their children. The children will also be catered to with a kiddie’s zone allocated to them. The concert will start at 12:00 until late, with children being allowed from the opening time until 17:00 in the evening.
Tickets are available for purchase at Computicket, retailing at R70 for children, R80 for pre-sold, R100 at the door and R500 for VIP for adults.
