Ghana’s president attends national team’s opening game

Published on

Some soccer fans lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking time off his busy schedule to watch the first game of the Ghana Black Stars against their Beninese counterparts.

The Ghanaian president will watch the game in Accra on Tuesday, 25 June 2019. This is in fulfilment to his promise to the team that he would watch the opening game with them, and watch the finals, if they make it.

His presence is expected to boost the confidence of the players in camp ahead of their bid to end the country’s 37-year-old trophy drought.

Ghana is scheduled to play Benin in Group F at 20:00 local time and soccer fans are upbeat and expecting a “good win” for Ghana in the first game.

Yaw Manu-Opoku, a public relations practitioner and a football enthusiast, said, “Ghana will win this game. I expect nothing but a 3-0 victory. From my observation, teams are recording low scores, but Ghana will show the rest of the teams that we have the team to watch for”.

The Daily Graphic Sports, for its part, reported that Coach Kwesi Appiah has assured the nation that his team will deliver against Benin.

However, John Ayison Ackom, another football analyst, says Ghana should go into the match with a serious mind, cautioning the team against complacency.
