Ghanaian press focuses on presidential candidate’s filing fee

The GH¢400,000 ($85,000) set as the filing fee for any aspirant for the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) dominates the headlines of Ghanaian newspapers on Friday, 30 November 2018.

The Ghanaian Times, Daily Graphic, Daily Guide, Daily Searchlight, Daily Dispatch, Crusading Guide and others gave different versions of the press conference organised by the party to announce the filing fees.

This followed the announcement that the NDC has rescheduled its primaries from December to January, 2019.

The General Secretary of the NDC, John Asiedu Nketia, who made the announcement, said that special offers would be given to women and persons with disability.

According to him, such people are to pay half of the filing fee.

Nketia said that picking of nominations would begin from 3 December 2018 to 4 December 2018, while filing of forms would begin from 13 December 2018 and ends on 14 December 2018, and “due to time constraints, there will be no extension for candidates who may fail to submit their forms on time.”

He spelt out the rules for the voting at the primaries and that there would be no proxy voting and that delegate would get the opportunity to vote instead of others.

The Business and Financial Times proposes that the government must deepen its support to local entrepreneurs to sustain job creation and economic growth.
