Gemini Major paid a visit to SABC 3’s Expresso team on Thursday, 11 October 2018, for a live performance and short interview.
Rapper Gemini Major was invited to perform on SABC 3’s premier morning talk show Expresso on Thursday, 11 October.
Shortly before he gave a live rendition of his latest single ‘Issa Vibe’, he was interviewed in a rapid-fire round of questions by presenter Katlego Maboe.
Maboe asked a range of questions, including what Major’s dream collaboration would be, where his stage name originated from, and his musical creation process.
Here is a summary of Gemini Major’s answers to Maboe’s interview questions:
Major named two artists that he would like to work with on a collaboration. Firstly, he named Canadian rapper Drake as his dream collaboration, saying, “He gets it right all the time, Drake gets it right.” Later, he added that he has Nigerian singer WizKid on his radar as well.
On the origin of his stage name, Major elaborated that he had once been a dancer and that the name stemmed from a song he used to dance to with his friends. He added that since his astrological birth sign is Gemini, he felt it fitting to adopt the name. He then credited American hip-hop producer, Lee Major, for the other half of the name. “Lee Major was one of my favourite producers, so I just took the ‘Major’ from him,” he said.
Maboe then asked him about his musical creation process as both an artist and producer. “When I’m alone, I could be inspired by anything, like watching TV, something I saw or a song,” Major explained.
