GCIS confirms MTBPS date

The GCIS has announced the scheduled date for Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni to deliver the eagerly awaited MTBPS, following the initial postponement.

The Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS) took to Twitter on Tuesday, 27 October 2020, to confirm the date and details relating to the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS). As is the norm, the address is set to be by the incumbent Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni.

The initial date of the statement’s delivery was postponed upon Mboweni’s request, citing “a decision taken by the government” as the reason for the delay. The MTBPS was initially set to be delivered before the president’s Economic Recovery Plan some two weeks ago. Despite this, many are hoping the MTBPS will provide a comprehensive overview of the county’s economic future.

In explaining the importance of the address, the GCIS stated that it “plays a critical role in the overall budget process because it sets out the policy framework for the upcoming budget.”

The address is scheduled to commence at 14:00 on Wednesday, 28 October 2020. It will be televised, available for livestreaming on YouTube, and aired on selected radio stations across the country.
