Former senior Eskom manager’s tax fraud case postponed

The NPA has announced the postponement of the tax fraud case of a former Eskom senior manager, who is also expected to appear in the Eskom Kusile Power Station corruption matter.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed on Thursday, 15 July 2021, that the fraud matter against former Eskom senior manager, France Hlakudi, was postponed to Tuesday, 10 August 2021, by the Pretoria Regional Court. The NPA stated that Hlakudi faces charges of tax fraud of up to R30 million, and is expected to appear at the Eskom Kusile Power Station corruption matter as well.

The magistrate is said to have additionally ruled that he would hold an enquiry for unreasonable delay against Hlakudi at the next hearing. The NPA further stated that the accused has been given time until his next appearance to sort out his legal representation. The NPA noted that he is facing tax fraud charges related to his personal tax affairs for his companies and funds received between 2015 and 2018.
