The first memorial service for the late Hip-Hop veteran HHP is set to take place tomorrow, 30 October 2018, at the Newtown Music Factory.
A memorial service will also be held on Thursday, 1 November 2018, in his hometown of Mahikeng, at the Mmabatho Convention Centre. Both services are scheduled to start at 12:00 and will run until 17:00.
The Motswako rapper passed away on Wednesday, 24 October 2018. Heartfelt messages and tributes streamed in from industry friends, colleagues, fans, as well as other prominent South Africans.
Many of them took to social media to express their shock and sadness at the rapper’s untimely passing. HHP passed away at the age of 38.
The rapper’s passing has shone a light on the subject of depression, with many speculating that depression and suicide was the cause of his death.
In recent years, HHP opened up about his battle with the mental illness, and admitted to three previous suicide attempts.
Speaking to local media in an article published on Monday, 29 October 2018, HHP’s close friend Keabetswe Modimoeng, commented on HHP’s impact on African music, and extended an invitation to the two memorial services to fans.
“His followers are more than welcomed to give their last respects,” he said. “Jabulani touched the whole country, the rest of the continent with his art and warm personality. So, it’s difficult for everyone who knew him, who spent their lives with him.”
The rapper will be laid to rest on Saturday, 3 November 2018 in Mmabatho, Mahikeng, with further details yet to be confirmed.
