Fikile Mbalula refers to Carl Niehaus as a “thug”

Fikile Mbalula surprised many on social media when, in a series of tweets, he lambasted fellow ANC member, Carl Niehaus, while implicating Ace Magashule and Kebby Maphatsoe.

Minister of Transport and the African National Congress’ (ANC) National Executive Committee member (NEC), Fikile Mbalula took to Twitter to lambaste fellow ANC NEC member, Carl Niehaus. The tweets appear to have stemmed from Mbalula’s animosity with the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), as the association has called for the dismissal of Mbalula over allegedly cutting them off from the “cash cow,” Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), tenders.

Mbalula, in a series of tweets, accused Niehaus of faking his mother’s passing. Moreover, he lambasted Niehaus by alleging that he is in cahoots with Ace Magashule and leader of the MKMVA, Kebby Maphatsoe. He further claimed that they are trying to overthrow the ruling party.

The apparent division is believed to be because of the factionalism in the ANC. Niehaus is believed to be part of the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction, which is said to have championed former president, Jacob Zuma, while Mbalula is speculated to be part of the Ramaphosa faction, hence the continued rivalry between them.
