Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula has highlighted the work of taxi associations across the country in ensuring compliance with lockdown regulations, commending them for their efforts.

In a Twitter post today, 9 April 2020, Minister Fikile Mbalula shared an image of a vehicle pound in Northern Corridor, Tshwane, where a number of taxis were seen parked, in line with the specified taxi operation times stipulated earlier this week. He further stated that several taxis were found not complying with the rules and were dealt with accordingly. He stated, “I commend the taxi associations across the country for their cooperation to implement our lockdown regulations and call on others to do the same.”

In a follow-up tweet, Mbalula also commended the law enforcement of South Africa, who have helped set in place the rules and regulations of the nationwide lockdown. He shared a clip which showed several law enforcement vehicles and taxis entering the vehicle pound and captioned the video, “The work of our law enforcement across the country is commendable. Let’s all comply with government regulations. We thank those who in their majority are cooperating.”
