Fifty-nine insurgents killed by the army in Cabo Delgado – Mozambique

At least fifty-nine insurgents were killed last week in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province, in clashes with the country’s Defense Forces, APA (African Press Agency) learned Thursday, 13 August 2020.

In a statement, the Mozambique Defense and Security Forces (SDF) said the terrorists were killed in a clash with government forces in Mocimboa da Praia district.

In addition to the loss of life, government troops also destroyed six camps and other property belonging to terrorists in the district, the SDF said.

During the clashes with government troops, terrorists reportedly tried to occupy the locality.

Mozambique has seen a wave of armed attacks in Cabo Delgado province since October 2017 and these have intensified dramatically since January 2020, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without adequate access to food, water, and water. sanitation or basic services.

More than two-hundred thousand people have been internally displaced in the oil-rich province, where armed groups attack government facilities and civilians alike.
